Ingredients (for 2 cups):

  • 500 ml milk (or plant-based alternative)
  • 100 g dark chocolate (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg (freshly grated)

  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Preparation:

Heat the milk

Heat the milk in a saucepan over a medium heat, but do not let it boil.

Melt the chocolate

Add the chopped dark chocolate to the warm milk and melt while stirring.

Add the cocoa and spices

Stir in the cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla extract until everything is well mixed and the chocolate is creamy.

Foaming (optional)

Foam the hot chocolate lightly with a whisk to achieve a fluffier consistency.

Serve

Pour the hot chocolate into cups, garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings and dust with an extra sprinkling of cinnamon if desired.

Tip

For a special flavour, you can add a dash of amaretto or caramel syrup.
