The origin of tea: a legend from China

Over 4,000 years ago, in a time of myths and legends, an emperor named Shen Nong ruled China. Shen Nong, known as the "Divine Farmer", was a wise and curious ruler who always endeavoured to discover the secrets of nature. He was convinced that nature held both food and remedies for mankind.

The discovery by chance

On a mild spring afternoon, the emperor took a break under a shady tree. Next to him was a kettle of boiling water, as Shen Nong only drank boiled water to prevent illness. As he rested, a gentle breeze blew through the branches of the tree above him. Suddenly, a few small leaves fell into the kettle.

Curious, Shen Nong watched as the clear water slowly turned a golden colour. A fine, pleasant fragrance rose up and caught his attention. Shen Nong, fascinated by this unexpected phenomenon, took a sip of the fragrant drink.

The flavour and the effect

To his surprise, the flavour was refreshing and invigorating, but at the same time gentle and calming. Even more remarkable was the effect: Shen Nong felt clear-headed and invigorated. He was convinced that this drink was a gift of nature, a remedy that combined both pleasure and healing.

He asked his advisors about the tree under which he had rested and learnt that it was a wild tea tree. Thus began the legend of tea - born of chance and open curiosity.

The spread of tea

Shen Nong recognised the importance of this discovery and had tea popularised as a drink in his empire. Tea quickly became part of Chinese culture, appreciated for its flavour and beneficial properties. Centuries later, tea spread to other countries via trade routes, where it captured people's hearts and brought cultures together.

Peppermint tea - refreshment for body and soul

Although peppermint tea is often drunk for digestion, it also has a calming effect on the mind.

The message of the legend

The legend of tea shows how a simple coincidence can enrich the world. Tea is more than just a drink - it is a symbol of the connection between nature, culture and community. To this day, tea is appreciated all over the world and remains a timeless companion that brings people together.
